6 questions to settle before shooting a corporate video

Decisions made before the shoot day determine a film's quality more than the camera does. The questions we ask at the brief stage.

6 questions to settle before shooting a corporate video

Most projects that begin with "we want a corporate video" actually describe very different needs: a silent loop for a fair screen, a 60-second piece for the website, a presentation for investors or vertical short clips for social media. The answers to the six questions below, given before the shoot, determine both the budget and the result.

1. Where will the film be watched?

There is no sound on a fair screen, so subtitles and strong visuals are needed. On social media the first three seconds decide everything and vertical format is a must. On a website, a longer, narrative structure is accepted. The edit cannot be planned until the channel is settled.

2. What should the viewer do afterwards?

Request a quote, visit the stand, look at the product or simply remember the brand: pick one goal. Films that chase two goals at once miss both.

3. Who will speak?

An executive interview, a voice-over, music only or employees telling the story each give a different tone. Rather than forcing an executive who is uncomfortable on camera, a voice-over with behind-the-scenes footage often gives a more sincere result.

4. Which locations, and for how long?

Production facility, office, field and drone shots may each need a separate day and separate permits. The number of shoot days is the largest cost item; a location list settled early keeps the schedule from being squeezed.

5. What do you have, and what is missing?

Vector logo, brand colours, existing photos and videos, product images and music licences. Every missing asset adds load to the shoot day; that is what the pre-production checklist is for.

6. How long should the film live?

A corporate film to be used for a year and a clip made for a single campaign do not deserve the same investment. For a long-lived film, avoiding seasonal and campaign-specific elements keeps it current.

If you would like to answer these six questions together before planning the shoot, let us set up a short brief meeting; we will then send a clear shoot plan and quote.
